Job Description
As an Engineering Technician, you will assist in designing, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment and systems. This includes preparing technical documentation, supporting system analysis, providing field support, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies. You will work closely with others in the engineering and operations departments to improve electrical distribution systems, perform field surveys, and help manage various operational tasks.

Position Overview
The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. The amount of time performing each function may vary day-to-day. All duties shall be performed efficiently and professionally in accordance with applicable labor agreements and the WEC Safety Manual.
- Responsible for the design of distribution facilities of the Cooperative in accordance with State and Federal codes and National Safety Code Specifications.
- Assist with drafting and designing electrical systems, including schematics, diagrams, maps, and technical drawings.
- Meets with members regarding line projects.
- Assess member needs for new and altered services.
- Prepare work orders for member work and calculate estimated construction costs for planned work.
- Obtain right of way, easements, and permits from landowners or appropriate agencies.
- Regularly meets with Engineering Manager to discuss workload and work plan status and schedule work accordingly. Oversee completion of the work plan projects design and planning during the current work plan time frame.
- Provides technical advice and design for members on electric service requests and related issues and problems.
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and analyze electrical systems, enhancing system efficiency.
- Use engineering software (e.g., WindMil, GIS) for planning, modeling, and operational tasks.
- Conduct field surveys, gather data, and verify electrical installation layouts and specifications.
- Maintain system records and databases, perform load studies, and evaluate equipment for system improvements.
- Coordinate with field crews on construction and maintenance projects, tracking project timelines and ensuring proper material coordination.
- Assist with testing equipment, materials, and systems as part of routine maintenance or new installations.
- Assist in dispatching.
- Reviews and updates the four-year work plan with input from other departments.
- Maintains a cooperative attitude with members and all WEC employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a preference of Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Three (3) years of electric utility experience is required, with knowledge of distribution line construction, maintenance, and substation systems preferred.
- Proficient use of the English language to communicate (including usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation) with employees, members, and members of the public.
- Coordinate inside and outside the Cooperative with federal, state, city, and county offices.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining high quality standards and completing a large volume of work within short time frames / designated timelines while balancing other priorities and work demands.
