Job Description
As System Engineer, you will assist in designing, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment and systems. This includes preparing technical documentation, supporting analysis, providing field support, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies. You will work closely with others in the engineering and operations departments to improve electrical distribution systems, perform field surveys, and help manage operation tasks. Primary emphasis on large projects that may include substation rebuilds, distribution or transmission line rebuilds, system coordination, metering, and programming electronic devices.

Position Overview
The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. The amount of time performing each function may vary day-to-day. All duties shall be performed in an efficient and professional manner in accordance with applicable labor agreements and the WEC Safety Manual and under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor.
- Responsible for the design of distribution / transmission facilities of the Cooperative in accordance with State and Federal codes and RUS specifications.
- Responsible for ensuring that mapping system, staking sheets, easement files and construction specifications / revisions are kept up to date.
- Responsible for scheduling testing, and programming of all electrical apparatus to include electronic recloser and regulator controls. To include management of annual oil testing for equipment.
- Responsible for compiling engineering data for reports and studies required by regulatory agencies, and large power applications.
- Responsible for making studies, on a continuing basis, for load, voltage drop, sectionalizing, fuse coordination, and make recommendations to Manager of Engineering for implementation.
- Completes planning for the annual budget with other Manager of Engineering and other department heads.
- Regularly meets with Manager of Engineering to discuss workload and work plan status and schedule work accordingly. Oversee completion of the work plan projects design and planning during the current work plan time frame.
- Responsible for the inspection of work orders after completion to make certain they have been done properly and in accordance with applicable specifications, codes, and RUS specifications. Reviews work orders prior to going to with costs, design, labor, materials and required outside help (flagging etc.)
- Assist with the implementation and operation of the cooperative’s AMI system upgrade.
- Provides technical advice and design for members on electric service requests and related issues and problems.
- Reviews and updates the four-year work plan with input from other departments.
- Special projects will be completed by mutual agreement with the Operations Manager.
- Manage annual infrared of equipment and oversees corrections.
- Maintains a cooperative attitude with members and all WEC employees.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent.
- A Professional Engineering License in the State of Oregon.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to use advanced applications of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, trigonometry, Calculus, and advanced math skills normally required in electrical engineering field.
- Ability to read and maintain accurate engineering records.
- Proficient use of the English language to communicate (including usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation) with employees, members, and members of the public, including drafting and reviewing professional communications, publications, technical periodicals, training materials, equipment manuals, maps, reports, and other job-related materials.
- Coordinate inside and outside the Cooperative with federal, state, city, and county offices.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining high quality standards and completing a large volume of work within short time frames / designated timelines while balancing other priorities and work demands.
